Fan Jinghua: Seasons of a Statue

                    Seasons of a Statue

The statue stands between two trees
The spring wind scatters the petals from one tree on its shoulders
And in the summer, the other tree shelters it with denser leaves

It has never expected October
So when the autumn confetti falls, it is so solitary
Withdrawn into its body, before the trees

Winter finds swollen and hardened, apparently fuller and stronger

When the spring breezes again, a tree is already dead
The statue does not lift its eyelids, and a sneer is always there on the corner of its mouth
Another tree is still alive
