Walt Whitman: So Long

  So Long
     Walt Whitman

My songs cease—I abandon them;
From behind the screen where I hid I advance personally, solely to you.

Camerado! This is no book;
Who touches this, touches a man;
(Is it night? Are we here alone?)
It is I you hold, and who holds you;
I spring from the pages into your arms—decease calls me forth.

O how your fingers drowse me!
Your breath falls around me like dew—your pulse lulls the tympans of my ears;
I feel immerged from head to foot;
Delicious—enough.

Enough, O deed impromptu and secret!
Enough, O gliding present! Enough, O summ’d-up past!

我的歌不再――我将它们抛了;
从藏身的幕后我真面走出来,独自向你。

同道们!这不是书本而已;
触摸它,也就是触摸一个人;
(入夜了吗?这儿只有我们了吗?)
你拥着的是我,拥着你的也是我;
我从书页间跳出,跳进你的怀抱——死亡将我唤了出来。

你的手指令我昏昏欲睡!
你的呼吸犹如露水洒滴在我周围――你的脉动抚慰我的耳膜;
我感觉自己沉浸其中,从头到脚;
甜美――足矣!

足矣,这即兴而秘密的契约!
足矣,稍纵即逝的此刻!足矣,归结起来的过去!
